Frogs - Amphibians make up the fourth level in the pond food chain, and include hundreds of species. Frogs are probably the most renowned members of this group. They breed in the spring through early summer, which is when they constantly croak. they lay their eggs, which hatch into tadpoles. Frogs will eat just about anything they can get their mouths around--insects, worms, small animals, small fish, even tadpoles or other frogs. they can often be found during the day sunning themselves on a rock or lily pad, soaking up the sun's rays. The most common types of grogs seen in ponds are leopard frogs, green grogs, bullfrogs, and pickerel frogs. |
